Who I Am (part 2)

Return to About Me TOC

Some of you may be wondering why I have the user name of MNTornado. Well that started about 4 years ago when I became a subscriber to the Weather Underground weather service. As a member I was required to choose a user name and password. I didn’t want to reveal who I really was until I got to know people there and got to know my way around. And I had noticed that most users there do not use their real names. So I did some thinking about it and decided that my user name should tell something about where I lived and something about my personality or my life. The first two letters, MN, were easy as I live in Minnesota. I was born and raised here for most of my life and have spent my entire life time in the Upper Midwest 5 state area, aka – Upper Mississippi River Valley.

The second part of my user name, Tornado, comes from the fact that I lived through and experienced the worst tornado out break in Minnesota in my life time. That is the 1965 tornado storm that generated 6 tornadoes and ripped through the Twin Cities from South of Eden Prairie through the metro area all the way to the New Brighton area. I was 14 years old at the time and this was one of the most exciting and frighting times in my life, though I probably would have been a lot more frightened had I known and understood as much about tornadoes as I do today. 1965 was also a time of one of the worst floods to occur in the Twin Cities area. There was major flooding along the Minnesota River through the South Metro and was the first time that I had ever seen that much water in person.

So the choice of my user name of MNTornado was made 4 years ago and I have been using it ever since. I will be posting items later about the flood and tornado out breaks of 1965 so be sure to come back often and look for these.
